Kitchen countertops

We are looking for an unusual countertop for our island and have been finding quite a few interesting options online. The artistic concrete ones that I showed photos of in my last post (http://www.absoluteconcreteworks.com/) were possibilities, as well as these...

This glass countertop is from http://www.ultraglas.com/ - they have quite a few interesting glass countertops.

The picture above is from http://www.enviroglasproducts.com/ and is a recycled glass countertop. They come in many different colors of background and many choices for the glass color and size.

This blue countertop is made from recycled scrap aluminum. Very unusual...

It is called alkemi and can be found here:
http://www.renewedmaterials.com/

It comes in textured (left side of photo) and honed (right side of photo) and is available in several colors.

This product is made of recycled paper and is called Shetka Stone. The photo to the right is a counter from a bank and is make from recycled counterfeit money!

Here is the link to the Shetka site:

Patti, I have been enjoying your blog as a first time visitor. I found you while researching recycled glass countertops. Do you have an appx $/sq. ft.? I have just begun looking and have not yet contacted any fabricators. I am wondering how this compares to other countertop prices.

Hi favrit - No, I don't have a price/sq. ft on the recycled glass countertops. The only countertop, other than granite, that we had priced was the alkemi and it was going to cost about $2k more than granite for our island countertop.

I was at the Minneapolis home and garden expo today and fell in love with recycled glass countertops, sold by Natural Built Home. They quote prices starting at $59/square foot (OUCH) on their website. http://www.naturalbuilthome.com

Patti-I also found you through recycled glass countertops. You mentioned building a 2-level island. We did that when we remodeled our kitchen 10 yrs. ago. We have Corian on the top level and granite on the lower "baking" level. It looks great and is so functional. Good luck with your building.

Glad you stopped by for a visit, jeanmr. I ended up deciding not to go with the 2-level island since I want to use it for rolling out dough and didn't want to be limited by the width of one side.

Thanks for the good luck wishes!
